The origin of the name of Duluth, Georgia comes from a French captain and explorer, Daniel Greysolon Du Luth (1636-1710). Born in Saint Germain Laval, France, a small village about fifty miles from Lyons. He negotiated and signed the peace treaty with the Indians in 1679. Now home to multitudes of people from all over the world, Duluth is the second largest city in Gwinnett County.

One of the two huge events held by Duluth will be this weekend. The largest special event in town is the Duluth Fall Festival, held the last weekend in September. This event draws a crowd of approximately 40,000 and is held at the beautiful Festival Center and Amphitheater. Opening day is kicked off with a big parade, and more than 250 arts and crafts and food vendors participate in the event. All kinds of entertainment happen throughout the weekend, and proceeds from the festival go toward the beautification and improvements of downtown Duluth.
